Social Practice > If You Lived Here... (2016- )

If You Lived Here... is a participatory public art project and visual survey located in Oppenheimer Park that asks: Do you live in this neighbourhood? Have you or your ancestors lived here? If so, where? And finally, where do you live now? The project honours past and present residents of Vancouver's Downtown Eastside (DTES) and the intersecting social narratives of displacement of Squamish, Musqueam and Tsleil Waututh - Coast Salish First Nations and Japanese Canadian communities. The project refers to the work of Martha Rosler and Yvonne Rainer (both former teachers of the artist), highlighting the feminist and conceptual art practices in communities of color that constitute Socially Engaged Art, and the discursive and relational aesthetics that stimulate social change.
